One of the first projects I shot with Partizan (in 2006) was a documentary for Boost Mobile Rock Corps.
When we got back to LA and post-production started, the producer asked me for an introduction to Stones Throw so they could license music.
They couldn’t afford to license Madlib’s music, but the intern who answered the phone had some tracks they decided to license.
That person was Steven Ellison, aka Flying Lotus. Later that year he would release his debut album, 1983.
He would go on to create scores for films and video games, more LPs, and other incredible art.
